Western Superconducting Technologies

A leading player in the fields of high-end titanium alloys and low-temperature superconducting materials in China

Western Superconducting Technologies Co., Ltd., established in 2003 in the Xi’an Economic and Technological Development Zone, specializes in the research, production, and sales of high-performance titanium alloys, low-temperature superconducting materials, and high-temperature alloys. It is a leading player in the fields of high-end titanium alloys and low-temperature superconducting materials in China. The company has successfully transformed laboratory achievements into industrial applications. It has established a full-process production line for niobium-titanium (NbTi) rods, superconducting wires, and superconducting magnets—achieving a historic breakthrough in the industrialization of superconducting wires and applications in China. It independently developed and produced three types of damage-tolerant titanium alloy bars and wires, filling a domestic gap. Additionally, it has made significant engineering breakthroughs in high-performance high-temperature alloy technologies, with product performance reaching leading levels in China. These developments have helped address bottlenecks in the supply of high-performance high-temperature alloys for China’s advanced aero-engines and gas turbines, overcoming long-standing reliance on imports by replacing them with domestically made products.

In 2004, CITIC Metal became a founding shareholder of Western Superconducting Technologies, currently holding an 11.89% stake as the second-largest shareholder. In 2019, Western Superconducting Technologies was listed on the Shanghai Stock Exchange’s STAR Market (stock code: 688122.SH).

Western Superconducting Technologies, guided by its corporate mission of “serving the nation and benefiting humanity”, is committed to seizing the strategic high ground in the new materials industry. It has established internationally advanced specialized production lines for high-end titanium alloy bars used in aviation, as well as world-class production lines for low-temperature superconducting wires. Leveraging R&D platforms such as the National Engineering Laboratory for the Preparation of Superconducting Materials and the National-Local Joint Engineering Laboratory for Special Titanium Alloy Processing Technologies, the company provides strong material support for the development and manufacturing of China’s aircraft and aero-engines, as well as for major scientific projects and high-end equipment like MRI machines and particle accelerators.
